Caendorian Time

The Moons

The Caendorians keep track of time using the phases of each moon, the Cerulean and the Roseate, and the risings and positions of both the suns and the moons.

The Cerulean is fixed in the sky and tells the Caendorian years.

The Roseate travels across the sky and tells the Caendorian months.

Forty-five risings of the sun equals one Caendorian month

Fifteen waxings of the Roseate or one waxing of the Cerulean equals one Caendorian lunar year

One lunar year is 675 sun risings

Caendorian Years vs. Earth Years

People on Caendoria are much older than what their numbered ages tell.

Below is a simple formula to figure how old they'd be in Earth years.

Caendorian age times (x) 15, divided by (/) 12
Example: Marissa of Mynae, 20C years
20 x 15 = 300
300/12 = 25
Marissa is 25 Earth years.

What is elixir?

Iridescent by day, bioluminescent at night, elixir is a thick, aqueous substance as abundant across Caendoria as water is upon Earth.

When first introduced to it, many considered elixir to be a 'fountain of youth,'  much like mineral springs, but with more potency and a sweeter flavor.

It is believed to be pure in nature and complete, allowing organic, carbon-based life forms to utilize all of its nutrients effectively.  It keeps all Caendorians physically healthy, though it does nothing for their mental capacities.  It does slow down the aging process but does not halt it, and Caendorians do die despite a full lifetime of elixir consumption.

Certain Caendorian plants can be consumed as well, but elixir is the main sustenance for life in that world.

Different uses for elixir have been revealed.  People began to use it as a light source when fire was banned.  With enough elixir-filled lanterns, the average dwelling can be relatively well lit.

One can also write and draw with elixir when it's mixed with different crushed pigments and worked against prepared paper.

Trades and Occupations

Caendorian people can learn various trades.  These have been refined to correlate to the bartering lifestyle of Mynae and Tuyen, and the exchange of currency (gems) in Nurian.

Many of these trades are worked from people's homes, though shops can be set up and items created are usually bartered for in daily marketplaces.
